Glam'r Gear's Approach to UGC, Influencers & Authentic Customer Reviews

Arrow Thin Right Icon

Real customers. Real experiences. In their own words.

If you've researched dance bags, dance competition luggage, rolling garment bags or Changing Stations on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook or YouTube, you've probably encountered plenty of product videos.

Today, those videos can come from many different sources. Some are traditional advertisements. Some are influencer promotions. Some are affiliate marketing. Some are paid user-generated content, commonly called UGC. And some are simply customers who purchased a product, use it and decided on their own to tell other people about it.

At Glam'r Gear, we think there's an important difference.

Glam'r Gear's Approach to Customer Content

Glam'r Gear generally does not pay UGC creators or provide free Glam'r Gear products in exchange for customer-style testimonials, reviews or promotional videos. We generally do not use affiliate commissions or personalized affiliate codes to generate customer testimonials. The organic customer content you see us share typically comes from actual Glam'r Gear customers who independently chose to post about products they own and use.

That's intentional.

We regularly receive requests from UGC creators, influencers and others interested in creating promotional content in exchange for free products, payment or other compensation.

We appreciate the interest in Glam'r Gear, but we generally decline these arrangements.

We prefer to let our customers do the talking.

Our Customers Aren't Following a Marketing Script

Glam'r Gear customers regularly share photos and videos of their dance bags, Changing Stations and competition setups on social media.

We love seeing them.

But we aren't handing those customers a list of talking points or telling them what to say.

That's one reason one Glam'r Gear customer video may look completely different from another.

One dance mom might show how she organizes costumes for competition weekend. Another might demonstrate how she sets up her Changing Station. A dancer might give a tour of everything packed inside her bag. Someone else may simply unbox a new Glam'r Gear product and share her excitement.

The lighting may not be perfect.

The wording may not be polished.

They may focus on completely different features.

They may even forget to mention something we would have included in one of our own product demonstrations.

We're perfectly happy with that.

They're customers, not our salespeople.

What Is Authentic User-Generated Content?

UGC stands for user-generated content.

Traditionally, that means photos, videos, reviews and other content that users independently create about products and experiences.

Today, the term "UGC" is also frequently used for content a company commissions from a creator specifically for marketing purposes. A creator may receive money, free merchandise, discounts, affiliate commissions or other benefits in connection with producing or promoting that content.

There's nothing inherently wrong with compensated UGC. It is simply different from an independent customer recommendation.

For Glam'r Gear, the customer content we value most is straightforward:

Someone chooses a Glam'r Gear product, actually uses it and independently decides it's worth telling other people about.

No assignment.

No required talking points.

No promise of a positive review.

No commission attached to the recommendation.

Just a customer sharing their experience.

Why You Usually Won't See Personal Affiliate Codes in Glam'r Gear Customer Testimonials

Affiliate marketing works differently from an independent customer recommendation.

In a typical affiliate arrangement, a creator may receive a personalized link or promotional code. When someone purchases through that link or uses that code, the creator may receive a commission or another benefit.

An affiliate can absolutely have a genuine opinion about a product. Receiving a commission doesn't automatically mean someone doesn't like what they're recommending.

But there is a financial relationship involved.

That's an important distinction to us.

The organic Glam'r Gear customer videos and testimonials we share aren't created by giving those customers personal commission codes or affiliate links.

When a customer tells another dance family why she loves her Glam'r Gear, we want those words to belong to her.

Why We Generally Don't Exchange Free Dance Bags for Promotional UGC

We regularly hear from content creators offering to make Instagram Reels, TikTok videos, product reviews, unboxings, testimonials and other UGC in exchange for a free Glam'r Gear dance bag or other compensation.

We're genuinely appreciative that creators want to work with our brand.

However, providing free products in exchange for customer-style promotional content is generally not part of Glam'r Gear's marketing strategy.

Why?

Because we value the sequence that happens naturally:

A customer discovers Glam'r Gear.

They decide our product is right for them.

They purchase it.

They use it in the real world.

They love it.

And then, entirely on their own, they decide it's worth telling somebody else about.

We think there's something especially meaningful about that.

Sponsored Content and Organic Customer Recommendations Aren't the Same Thing

Consumers encounter an enormous amount of promotional content online, and the difference between an independent recommendation and advertising isn't always obvious.

The Federal Trade Commission recognizes that distinction as well.

FTC endorsement guidance addresses what it calls a material connection between an advertiser and an endorser. Depending on the circumstances, that connection can include payment, free or discounted products, affiliate commissions and other benefits.

The FTC also specifically addresses affiliate relationships and personalized discount codes when discussing disclosures because consumers may need to understand the relationship between the person making a recommendation and the company whose product is being recommended.

On the other hand, when someone purchases a product herself, likes it and talks about it without having a relationship with the advertiser, there isn't a sponsoring relationship to disclose.

That's largely the kind of customer advocacy we want to encourage.

Our customers don't need to announce that their independent posts are organic.

The absence of a marketing arrangement is precisely what makes them organic.

Why Glam'r Gear Customer Videos Don't All Look the Same

Watch enough genuine customer videos and you'll notice something interesting:

They're inconsistent.

We consider that a feature, not a problem.

Real dance families have different priorities.

One customer may love having a built-in clothing rack. Another may be amazed by how much she can organize inside her dance bag. Another loves having her own Changing Station at a busy dance competition. Another may discover a useful way of organizing costumes that we hadn't even considered showing in a marketing video.

Real customers also speak differently.

That's why we don't need ten different people repeating the same list of product features.

We would rather hear what actually mattered to each individual customer.

That gives other dancers and dance parents something valuable: different perspectives from people actually using Glam'r Gear products at real dance competitions, conventions, recitals and performances.

Authentic Customer Content Doesn't Mean Glam'r Gear Doesn't Advertise

Of course we advertise.

We're a business, and we want dancers and dance families to discover Glam'r Gear.

We create product photography and videos. We demonstrate our products. We explain features. We advertise promotions. We use social media, email and other forms of marketing.

The distinction is pretty simple:

When Glam'r Gear is doing the selling, we're happy to tell you we're doing the selling.

We don't need to make our own marketing voice sound like an independent customer's voice.

Those are two different things.

Why Organic Dance Bag Reviews and Customer Experiences Matter to Us

Choosing a dance competition bag or Changing Station can be a significant purchase for a dance family.

Parents want to know what using a product during an actual competition is like.

How do dancers organize their costumes?

How does the clothing rack work?

How much dance gear can they organize?

What is setup like?

How does a dance mom keep costumes, shoes, accessories and everything else under control during a busy competition weekend?

Glam'r Gear can provide dimensions, specifications, photographs, product descriptions and demonstrations.

But our customers can provide something we can't manufacture:

Their experiences.

When a customer independently takes the time to create a video, write a review or tell another dance family about Glam'r Gear, they're telling us that their experience made enough of an impression that they wanted to share it.

We don't take that for granted.

Does Glam'r Gear Work With UGC Creators and Influencers?

We receive many inquiries involving UGC collaborations, influencer partnerships, sponsorships, affiliate arrangements and free products.

We appreciate people thinking of Glam'r Gear.

However, we generally do not provide free Glam'r Gear products or payment in exchange for customer-style UGC, positive reviews or testimonials.

We also generally don't establish affiliate relationships for the purpose of generating customer-style product recommendations.

So if you're a UGC creator considering contacting Glam'r Gear to propose free merchandise in exchange for promotional videos or other content, we appreciate your interest in our brand, but that generally isn't part of our marketing strategy.

There is one group whose videos we can never get enough of, though:

Our customers.

Already own Glam'r Gear and want to show us how you use it?

Please do!

We love seeing Glam'r Gear out in the real world.

Can Glam'r Gear Share Customer Photos and Videos?

Yes.

Customers frequently tag Glam'r Gear when sharing competition setups, new dance bags, Changing Stations, unboxings and other content. We may share customer content when appropriate or contact a customer about permission to use it.

But there's an important distinction between sharing something a customer independently decided to create and giving someone an incentive to create it in the first place.

Reposting or sharing an authentic customer experience doesn't change why the customer originally created it.

Tag @glamrgear on Instagram or Facebook so we can see what you share.

Real Customers. Real Dance Competitions. Real Experiences.

We're fortunate to have customers who are excited enough about their Glam'r Gear dance bags and Changing Stations to tell other people about them.

We could try to make those voices more polished.

We could give people talking points.

We could attach affiliate codes to their recommendations.

We could exchange products for more customer-style promotional videos.

But then they wouldn't be quite the same voices anymore.

We would rather let Glam'r Gear customers be Glam'r Gear customers.

So when you see a dance mom excitedly showing how she packed her Glam'r Gear for competition, a dancer giving you a tour of her Changing Station or a family unboxing a new bag, don't be surprised if the video isn't perfect.

We didn't ask it to be.

No script. No commission. Just their experience.

And we wouldn't have it any other way.
